Mr Alex Goodson is a renowned consultant maxillofacial surgeon with subspecialisation in aesthetic facial plastic surgery and implants for total dental rehabilitation. His private practice expertise includes rejuvenating aesthetic facial plastic surgery (facial skin lesions, facelift, forehead lift, blepharoplasty and neck lift) as well as dental implants; performing full-mouth dental implant rehabilitation under general anaesthesia (‘GA teeth in a day’) as co-founder of ‘The Implant Consultants’ multidisciplinary team; a unique service at Medicana Winchester. 

He also routinely undertakes high volumes of wisdom teeth extraction and surgery for facial skin cancers/lesions.  He is widely regarded for salivary gland surgery (sialendoscopy/minimally invasive and open gland removal) as well as head and neck surgery, including both benign and malignant tumour removal and complex facial reconstruction (with a PhD and international profile for expertise in 3D printed custom implants in facial reconstruction) and facial reanimation surgery for facial palsy/paralysis. 

He is the research lead for the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and in 2020 was the youngest ever consultant elected through a national poll onto the association’s core council. He is the co-lead of the facial reanimation service and core member of both the skin cancer and head and neck multidisciplinary teams at Queen Alexandra Hospital (covering East Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight), where he works in a NHS major H&N cancer and reconstruction lead position. He performs over 500 maxillofacial operations annually.

With over 15 years’ experience, Mr Goodson originally qualified with an MBBS (medical degree) and an intercalated BSc from Imperial College London in 2007. He then completed training in London and South Wales in addition to his BDS (dental degree) from King’s College London, followed by a subspecialist internationally-competitive fellowship in head and neck surgery and complex facial reconstruction at the renowned Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. More recently, Mr Goodson achieved a PhD from the University of South Wales, focusing on 3D-printed titanium cranio-maxillofacial implants.

Mr Goodson is a clinical supervisor for maxillofacial surgeons in training in Wessex as well as training visiting senior fellows/consultants from overseas in complex head and neck surgery. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, as well as numerous textbooks in maxillofacial surgery; often presenting at national and international conferences. Mr Goodson is also an associate medical editor for Libri Publishing UK and a peer-reviewer for the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
